What are Psyllium husks

Psyllium husks are the outer shell parts of the Psyllium plant (Plantago ovata Forssk.). The Psyllium plant is mainly grown in the northeastern part of India, where it thrives in the hot and dry dessert climate without the use of pesticides and fertilizers.

Psyllium husks contain approx. 85% fibres and are difficult to digest. The many fibres of the Psyllium husks are water-soluble and absorb much water (see: How do Psyllium husks work?). The high water-solubility is one of the factors contributing to the intestinal regulating effect.
